It is with this selfless passion that Hakim Muhammad Said led his exemplary life. A simple and modest man at heart, with many accolades to his credit, he is known to be one of the great leaders in the history of Pakistan.

As intellect which practiced ‘hikmat’, he had a multifaceted personality; a researcher, an author and a great philanthrospist. His contributions in the field of healthcare, and science live to this day and have been instrumental in the global recognition of eastern medicine.

Born in an educated and religious family, he grew up in a well-cultured environment and gained impeccable manners from his parents.

Pursuit of Education

As a child he learnt Arabic, person, Urdu and English and memorized the Holy Quran at the age of nine. His interest in Tibb earned him a degree in 1940 from the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia college Delhi.

Doctor of science was conferred on him by the international Multidisciplinary Scientific Society on Alternative Medicine in 1984.

His extensive research in the field of History os Science and Medicine led to the publication of several books.

Madinat-al-Hikma

After many years of experience in the medical and research fields, Hakim Muhammad Said hopped to revive academics in the Muslim communities and he did this by founding Madinat-al0Hikma city of education, Science & Culture, in Karachi.

This also contains the excellent Hamdard University with faculties of medicine and dentistry, eastern medicine, social sciences, information technology, law and engineering science and technology.

His love for education had also led him to establish Hamdard Public School; also the Hamdard Village School, where children are given the best academic education.





The journey of Hamdard

The contribution of Hakim Muhammad Said to the Hamdard enterprise started before partition, when he joined the family business of herbal medicine, Hamdard Dawakhana established in 1906 by his father, Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed.

When in 1948, he migrated to Pakistan, he founded Hamdard Dwakhana in Karachi, which he later transformed into Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Pakistan. He was a man of determination and rare qualities. His dynamic mind led him to make Hamdard a leading brand of herbal and medicinal products all over Pakistan.

His love for books

A man of many gifts, Hakim Muhammad Said was also an author, who wrote, edited and compiled 200 books in Urdu and English, on a variety subjects ranging from science and medicine to Islam and history, for both adults and the youth, as well as travelogues for children.

Hakim Muhammad Said was a great advocate for educating the youth of Pakistan and at the same time striving to help create bright personalities for our future generation.

He achieved by starting may publications including:

1) Hamdard Naunehal Magazine (in 1953) for the youth which is one of the most popular children’s publications to this date.

2) Hamdard Sehat (in 1951, which had started in Delhi in 1932) that provides valuable information about the benefits of natural products.

3) Hamdard Islamicus.

4) Hamdard Medicus.

5)Journal of the Pakistan Historical Society, Historicus.
