Nutritious Nuts

Among the many blessing that Allah has given us, nuts are one of them. Almonds, Pistachios, Walnuts, cashews and pecans are delicious snacks, a great source of protein and healthy fats. Nuts also helps in maintaining weight cholesterol and sugar content in our blood.

Nuts are nothing but fruits grown on trees, but they have a hard shell on the outside that protects a seed inside. Nuts, unlike fruits, don’t split open when they are ripe, and they are much harder and dry. Some of the nuts that are abundantly found in the Khyber pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan include peanuts, almonds, walnuts, cashews, chestnut, hazelnut, pine nuts and pistachios. You can enjoy these nuts in the winter season.

Using Nuts

Since nuts contain lots of energy, they are perfect snacks to eat on their own. They’re even pureed and added into butter, like you must have tried the delicious peanut butter. Some nuts, like almonds, are mixed with water to make milk too. We also get oil from these nuts which are sometimes used in cooking or applying to hair such as almond oil.

Food and health effects

Nuts contain the diverse nutrients that are needed for the growth of a new plant. Composition varies, but they tend to have a low water and carbohydrates content, with high levels of fats, protein, dietary minerals, and vitamins. The digestibility of the protein at about 90% is slightly lower than that of meat and fish, but can be improved by thorough chewing. The fats are largely unsaturated and nuts are a source of essential omega-3 fatty acids. As part of a healthy human diet, long-term consumption of diverse nutrients in nuts may contribute to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease reduced levels of blood cholesterol and lower all-cause mortality For vegetarians and vegans nuts provide many of the essential nutrients which may be in short supply in other plants foods
